I have a commercial building with a large parking lot across the street from Seywell park and the lake/river in Lake Cowichan. It is walking distance to everything like the Grocery store, post office, 5 restaurants within a block, washrooms in the park, and showers and sani dump just down the road. And it is a couple blocks from the bus stop. Cost is $550 a month for off grid (3 months or more), or $650 with 15 amp power included. Short term is available but more money. Cheap alternative to renting an apt or house. No flakes or f*ck ups.
