JOB POSTING Lyackson First Nation - Referrals Coordinator See Lyackson’s website for full job description Lyackson First Nation is an Indigenous community with 200+ members. Our traditional territory encompasses mid Vancouver Island, Lyackson Island (Valdes Island), the Salish Sea, and the Fraser River areas. Lyackson’s Administration Offices are located 15 minutes north of Duncan, BC. Lyackson First Nation is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and well-organized individual to take on the role of Referrals Coordinator within our organization. The successful applicant will have strong analytical, communication and administrative skills. The Referrals Coordinator will assist our Consultations Manager to assert and protect Lyackson First Nation’s aboriginal rights and/or title to our lands and resource within our traditional territory. Key Duties • Receive all incoming referrals including proposed projects and activities from proponents and others • Conduct initial assessment of impacts on LFN’s rights, title and interests • Cross-reference traditional and current use data with referrals, to support LFN’s interests • Maintain LFN’s referrals database in a timely, accurate manner • Support LFN’s Consultations Coordinator their duties, including the following: o Ensure all referrals submitted to LFN are responded to and/or engaged in, as per Nation’s Referral Consultations Policy endorsed by Chief and Council o Review project applications for technical and scientific rigour o Represent LFN at working group meetings, conducting field visits, and interacting with project proponents and regulators to ensure LFN’s interests are addressed and protected Education and Experience: The successful applicant will possess a Diploma in a related field of study and at least 5 years transferable experience. They will be familiar with Aboriginal Title and Rights within BC and Canada; Crown’s duty to consult with First Nations; Indigenous Rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act; Environmental Assessment and government decision-making processes. Position Terms: Permanent, part time. Monday-Friday 4-5 hours per day (up to 22.5 hours per week). Majority of work will be completed remotely.
