Youth Assistants

4 temporary Youth Assistants needed for Jan 29 - Feb 12. Hours include afternoons, evenings & weekends. May be required to live in residence. They work closely with the Campus Youth team communicating behavioural issues and/or concerns; are aware of the responsibilities in regard to "in loco parentis"; monitor general health & wellbeing of boarders, liaising with appropriate staff; ensure boarders keep living spaces clean and tidy and respect the privacy and belongings of others; work with appropriate personnel in the case of a boarder experiencing difficulty; maintain confidential information with sensitivity, integrity; attend meetings and communicate regarding situational needs; model appropriate behavior; act as a mediator if disputes arise. $18-$20 an hour depending upon experience EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS * Child & youth development or similar program / experience * Knowledge of social issues for adolescents * Evaluation strategies for situational needs * Knowledge of, and experience with, international cultures and Indigenous worldviews * Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills * Ability to prioritize, organize, schedule, solve problems and tasks * Ability to deal with adolescents, sensitively, empathetically, tactfully, consistently and professionally at all times * First Aid an asset * Class 5 Driver's license, Class 4 is beneficial New employees are required to clear a Criminal Record Review.
