Marine Stewardship and Monitoring Technician

To promote the values of Malahat Nation through collecting environmental data and observing and reporting on the various industrial, commercial and recreational uses of the Salish Sea. Under the Supervision of the Executive Director of Environment and Sustainable Development, and in collaboration with other members of the Malahat Lands and Environment team, the successful applicant will assist with a robust Marine Monitoring and Stewardship Program. With increasing recreational, commercial and industrial activity in the Salish Sea, Malahat Nation is prioritizing protection of the important cultural and environmental resources that are a part of Malahat Nation's territory. The successful applicant will be responsible for data collection, marine monitoring, safe boating practices, and finding creative solutions to problems. Malahat Nation has been dedicated to protecting and understanding these ecosystems since time immemorial and must be a part of building the understanding required to manage these valuable resources effectively. Credentials/Qualifications: □ High school diploma □ Boat operation certificates are beneficial □ Class 5 Driver's License beneficial The ideal candidate will have the following skills: □ Knowledge of Coast Salish Culture and strong interest in continued learning about culture, tradition and ways of life □ Knowledge of marine ecosystems □ Confident working on the water □ Experience working in a professional workplace and being an effective member of a team □ Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, ability to work well and communicate appropriately with a wide range of people and professionals □ Experience with programs such as Word and Excel Compensation and work requirements: □ 40 hours per week □ Flexibility with hours' dependent upon programming needs, primarily Monday - Friday □ Compensation $30,000 per annum (~$18.00/hr) □ Benefit package included for full-time employee after 3-month probation period □ 2 weeks paid vacation annually Please submit the following: □ Cover letter □ Resume including 3 current references □ Credentials
