Cooks (3 FT)

SUMMARY OF DUTIES ~Prepares all food items according to menu, recipes and quantity quotas. Using methods/procedures such as roasting, frying, grilling, steaming, poaching, boiling and baking as directed. ~Monitors and records temperature of coolers, freezer and prepared food to ensure food safety. ~Modifies food items to make them appropriate for therapeutic or textured diets. ~Controls portioning of food items ensuring recipe yield meets assigned quantity servings. ~Ensures food rotation in storage is maintained and properly controlled to minimize spoilage and waste. ~Maintains sanitary conditions by routinely cleaning work area and practicing safe food handling techniques. ~Prepares food for special catering as well as gathering supplies for activity events. ~Participates in facility in-services and departmental meetings. Performs cleaning duties and other assigned duties as requested by the Support Services Manager. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Completion of grade 12 or a comparable combination of education and experience; Graduation from a recognized 12 month program in cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; Extensive experience in a la carte, banquet and cold & hot kitchen service; Some experience in institutional cooking is an asset; Valid Food Safe Certificate and WHMIS; Must be in good health and free of communicable diseases; Able to lift heavy items; Able to work under pressure in warm, noisy environment; Able to work with others and supervise when necessary; Must be well groomed and have a high standard of personal hygiene; Must have high standards of sanitation; Must have the ability to communicate tactfully and maturely when interacting with residents, staff, suppliers, volunteers, family and guests; Ability to speak, read and write English and follow instructions. Remuneration: $17.75 to start, $18.25 after probationary period, 100% employer paid benefits, RRSP matching and complimentary meal on shift. We have permanent FT and casual positions available
