I usually wether all buck kids by default, but really like the potential of this one and it seems a shame not to post him first. Unfortunately now when I'm finally getting pictures he's in a growth spurt that's making him look skinny, but I've been consistently impressed with his length and width as he's developed. He's a triplet, will be 12 weeks old on Saturday May 11th, and currently weighs 67 lbs. He has clean 1x1 teats, and a relaxed, easy-going temperament like his dam. Has a 67% chance of carrying the gene for solid colour, since both parents do, and a 50% chance of having the gene for moonspots--just hard to tell with his limited colour. The irregular marking on the back of his head makes me think it's likely. Sire (pictured) is 97% Boer, from Frost Creek Boers, weighing approximately 220 lbs with clean 2x2 teats. He's a beautiful buck and not aggressive towards people, if a bit of an idiot. I'm really happy with the growth rate of his kids. Dam (pictured with this year's kids) is 62.5% Boer and 37.5% Nubian with a 2.75% kidding average and clean 1x1 teats. She has weak lateral udder attachments, so I wouldn't use this buckling in a dairy program, but decent medial and foreudder, and produces substantially more milk than your average Boer doe. Her sire was from massive "show" type Boer lines, and she got length and body capacity from him that has always impressed me. I think the combination should make for an excellent buck. This kid would be particularly useful for increasing carcass weight in local meat crosses or small Boers. He'd also be a great option if you wanted a buckling to use this fall and then eat. Herd hasn't been tested for Johnes/CAE because I never got organized about it, but the last time an animal was brought in from an untested herd was 2018, and we've never had problems. No new animals since January 2021. No CL. Located on Salt Spring Island
