Looking for a student to work from November 13 to February 26, 2022. The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre has its mandate to preserve and present the heritage of BC’s maritime past and the culture of wooden boats. We are a living museum, open to the public throughout the year, with exhibits and displays, a large meeting space with kitchen, a workshop facility for building and restoring wooden boats, a fleet of row boats, a marine library, and an active marine ways. We are located in Cowichan Bay. For more information visit classicboats.org and tourismcowichan.com. Hourly Wage: $18.00/hour Duties will include: • Enhancing the visitor experience by meeting and greeting visitors, directing traffic flow and giving tours, • Advertising, coordinating and leading educational maritime-themed programs for children and youth, • Inputting data into our data base regarding members, and volunteers • Gathering feedback and conducting post program and visitor satisfaction surveys, • Performing general front desk duties including answering the phone, selling merchandise, raffle tickets and memberships and handling queries. • Opening and closing the facility and ensuring site safety procedures are followed. • Tidying/purging archived files • Assist with planning of upcoming events Skills required: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Familiarity with the marine environment • Excellent customer service skills • Experience working with the general public • Experience working with children and youth • Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel • Competency in graphic design an asset • Evening and weekend work may be required • Must be aware of, and sensitive to, local First Nations culture and heritage • Able to work independently To be eligible, you must be: • a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; • legally entitled to work in Canada; • between 15 and 30 years of age; • enrolled as a student in the current school year.
