Web Mapping Coordinator (Marine Situational Awareness)

Job Purpose To assist in the development of advanced software to support informed local decision-making, help plan vessel routes, identify sensitive areas, or aid in emergency situations in local waters. Under the Supervision of the Executive Director of Environment and Sustainable Development, and in collaboration with other members of the Malahat Lands and Environment team, the successful applicant will assist developing an Enhanced Marine Situational Awareness Program (EMSA) in partnership with Transport Canada. With increasing recreational, commercial and industrial activity in the Salish Sea, Malahat Nation is prioritizing protection of the important cultural and environmental resources that are a part of Malahat Nation's territory. The successful applicant will be responsible for helping develop the EMSA program to best suit the unique needs of Canada's First Nations and better understand the activities occurring on the Salish Sea. Malahat Nation has been dedicated to protecting and understanding these ecosystems since time immemorial and must be a part of building the understanding required to manage these valuable resources effectively.
