$24 · Transition House Counsellor, part-time

Posting #2019-19 Do you have passion and skill for supporting women and children who are impacted by family violence? Are you deeply caring with healthy professional boundaries, curious and open-minded? Does working as part of a team of collaborative, compassionate, solution-focused 'thinking outside-of-the-box' group of women appeal to you? Somenos Transition House provides temporary shelter and crisis support for women and children who are experiencing or are at risk of abuse. Qualifications include a combination of direct experience (preferably in transition house/crisis residential setting) and relevant training and education. A strong feminist analysis with the ability to articulate and apply in depth understanding of the dynamics & impacts of violence against women, & strong crisis support skills relevant to this work are essential. In addition, the successful applicant will have excellent communication & interpersonal skills, & knowledge of the systems that clients/residents often must navigate (income assistance, MCFD, court, etc.). In addition to the provision of support for residents and crisis callers, all staff contribute to the tasks that help to provide a welcoming environment for those seeking service. As well, regular staff may participate in agency committees or community education activities. A valid Class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driver's abstract is necessary. The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations. Current 1st aid certification (emergency 1st aid with CPR) will be required. Approximately 27 hours /week, scheduled between Sunday - Wednesday & will consist of shifts (max. 8.25 hours each) between 8 am - 9:30 pm. The rate of pay is $24.27 per hour, with benefits after a 3 month waiting period. Start date will be in early July.
