Maintenance Assistant

Shawnigan Lake School has openings for two Maintenance Assistants to join our team January 7, 2019. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Assistant adapts on a daily basis to the changing needs of the school by completing a wide range of labour assignments and tasks as required. These include handling materials and supplies, general clean-up, and assisting senior team members with repairs and maintenance throughout the school year. These are permanent, year round positions with an attractive benefits package after three months. Hours of work are typically daytime, Monday to Friday. RESPONSIBILITIES * Either working alone or with senior team members, complete tasks that draw from many industrial disciplines including, but not limited to, lighting, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, furniture assembly and repairs, floor covering, and equipment maintenance * Provide professional and efficient support for event setups and teardowns * Assembly and disassembly of office and residential furnishings and fixtures * Safely handle a variety of materials and inventory; this includes moving furniture and household items in and between residences REQUIREMENTS * A flexible mindset, with a willingness to take on new tasks and to learn new skills * Basic mechanical and problem solving skills, with some industrial work experience (specialized training provided) * Experience with hand tools, electric tools, hand carts, and furniture dollys * Minimum valid class 5 BC driver's licence, with standard transmission experience preferred * Certifications in forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, fall arrest, and WHMIS considered assets NEXT STEPS To apply, please send a resume and cover letter expressing your interest to the attention of Ray Hollings, Maintenance Manager, via email at hr@shawnigan.ca.
