3-year-old male, unneutered, pure bred Great Pyrenees dog in need of a new farm where he can guard and have purpose. We're downsizing our animals and the activities on our small farm. Our guardian dog has less purpose than before. He's a hardy outdoor dog. He exhibits guarding behaviour with both food and the people that care for him. Very sensitive to people he doesn't know - he needs to build more confidence with strangers. He does not get along with other dogs (specifically males). Looking for a skilled dog handler who knows this breed, or dogs with similar behaviours. He is tolerant of small animals - rabbits and chickens. Has grown up on a farm with exposure to sheep, miniatures horses, rabbits, chickens and ducks. He is somewhat unpredictable with cats, he likes some and not others. Overall he's very affectionate and loyal once he trusts you. He can is very sensitive to other people's energy. Anyone who's uneasy, fearful or not confident, make him feel the same and vulnerable. He feels at ease with people who are confident and calm. Although we adore him, we feel like he's the wrong breed for our family. We feel like he would thrive on a larger acreage with more space to run, and with livestock, or a large flock of chickens to guard. All of his shots are up to date, and he has no health problems. Please call or email with any questions, or to arrange to meet him.
