$1 · Full-time and part-time vegetables field work this spring

Green Fire Farm is a certified organic, 40-acre mixed vegetables and livestock farm in the Cowichan Valley with four positions available for the 2019 growing season (March-October). These four field crew positions include: + Full or part-time schedules for persons with limited prior experience + Full-time (40 hours/week)/Full season opportunities for experienced field crew +$12.65/hour starting wage for field crew with no/limited prior experience; Increases with minimum wage increase June 1 ($13.85/hour) + Starting wage negotiable for experienced field crew + Organic vegetables and other farm raised food available as a regular supplement to hourly wage Responsibilities for all field crew members will include: +Preparing field beds for planting, +transplanting, +harvesting, +maintaining crop and field edges with hand tools and/or power tools, +maintaining tools and equipment. Qualifications for these responsibilities include: +Physical and mental fitness for working outdoors in all weather conditions, +ability to lift 40-50 lbs. repeatedly, + ability to squat or work on knees in relative comfort (e.g. without preexisting chronic knee or back pain) , +demonstrated communications skills, +consistent, reliable work habits. Additional responsibilities for more experienced field crew will be negotiable based on interests and abilities, likely to include: +Greenhouse management activities, +tomato and cucumber trellising and pruning, + leading the harvest crew, + maintaining records of harvest and other field work activities, +post-harvest washing and packing, +setting up and maintaining livestock systems from fencing to shelters, +operating power-tools and small tractors for maintaining field edges and buffer zones.
