Animal Husbandry Assistant

The Raptors is hiring! We are a bird of prey organization, with the goal of raising awareness for birds of prey and promoting conservation. We are currently hiring for a position as an Animal Husbandry assistant at our facility in the Cowichan Valley. This is a contract, funded position for an applicant under thirty years of age, and qualified applicants must have a STEM diploma or degree. The position has a diverse range of responsibilities, including assisting with the medical care of raptors, working with our resident rescue parrots, and other general husbandry duties. Daily tasks would include: * Assisting with the set up of our new hospital facility (it is moving in January), implementation of all procedures, ordering and setting up inventory, setting up ICU units, etc. * Day to day care of rescued parrots (all aspects); moving parrots into new facility (December/Janaury) * Reporting and paperwork related to rehabilitation and medical care * Daily care, treatment, and cleaning of rehabilitation facility * Assistance in education of the public on raptors, rehabilitation and environmental protection * Creation of hospital related documents/informational sheets Qualified candidates would have the following: - Positive and energetic demeanor - Experience with animal or wildlife medicine. - Ability to work both alone and as part of a team. - Excellent communication skills. - Strong organizational and self-direction skills. - Solid computer literacy. - A degree in any STEM Field. (Required for funding) Additional Qualifications include: - First aid training - Educational experience - Experience with grant writing. - Database management skills. - Animal training experience (esp. avian training) Starting wage is $17-19 dependent on experience.
